Exploreum Summer Academy STEM Educator
Looking for a summer position where you can help kids have fun with science and learn new hands-on activities to do in your own classroom? Spend a week of your summer gaining valuable experience with hands-on STEM teaching techniques.
Summer Academy STEM Educators are responsible for presenting and demonstrating inquiry-based science programs to PreK to 2nd grade students. Educators must participate in a one-hour training workshop where they will be introduced to the interactive and inclusive STEM curriculum for the assigned week. The one-hour training must be scheduled in advance and will take place on Wednesday, June 7 between 9AM and 4PM.
Exploreum Academy classroom sessions are M-F, 9:30-2:30. At the end of the week session, educators will receive a $500 stipend and a copy of the lesson plans to utilize within their own classroom.
Minimum Qualification
- Teacher certification preferred
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related field
- Experience in a PreK-2 Classroom
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Work well with a variety of people in a fast- paced environment
- The ability to effectively interpret and communicate science concepts

Summer Academy STEM Educator Positions (4 available)
Week 1: June 12-16
6-7yrs “Busy B’s” Our Junior botanist will explore various plants, including native carnivorous plants in Alabama, and the conditions that are required for them to thrive in nature and in gardens. Through plant dissection, students will discover plant anatomy and learn about plant life cycles.

- Objective SCI.K.3.2: Record in words and pictures what living things need to survive.
- Objective SCI.K.3.3: Distinguish patterns between living and non-living things using examples.
- Objective SCI.K.3.4: Use pictures to discuss living and non-living things.

6-7yrs “Junior Imagineers” Take a journey as we use the science and art of mapmaking to learn how to orient ourselves in the world around us. Students will learn about Earth’s magnetic fields, cardinal direction, and much more as they design and map out a new world of their own.

6-7yrs “Animalpalooza” Take a voyage into the magical world of animals as we investigate the relationship between humans and their faithful friends. Students will learn how we share our communities, neighborhoods, and sometimes houses with the wildlife around us.

4-5yrs “¡Vamos!” Take an adventure to Latin America and discover what makes this part of the world so unique. Students will learn about the animals, geography, and the many foods and traditions that originate from this incredible region. All topics will be discussed in English as well as Spanish, introducing the students to a second language.
